What’s the best food allergy disclaimer?

You often see the statement something like this on menus:

“We cannot guarantee that any of our dishes are free from food allergens. We advise those with food allergies or sensitivities to inquire about ingredients and preparation methods before ordering.”

A liability statement like this is important, especially if you want to discourage people with food allergies from eating at your establishment. However, if you want to create a more accommodating service consider including a few small but important changes and adopt a liability statement similar to this:

“While we cannot guarantee that any of our dishes are free from food allergens we take food allergy safety seriously. If you have specific questions about our menu, ingredients and/or cross-contact prevention practices please speak with a Manager. We cannot always accommodate a dietary restriction but we do our very best to help you make informed ordering decisions.”

These straightforward disclaimer adjustments convey to guests that you are not only prepared and aware but also genuinely concerned for their well-being; while still addressing your liability concerns. By fostering this first impression foundation of trust, you enhance your guests' overall experience and comfort.

Small changes, big impact! 💥
